What the app collects and what it does not. Under the Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012 (RA 10173).
Who we are
Sagot sa Kalam is a free recipe app and website for Filipino home cooking. We are the personal information controller under the Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173). Email: privacy@sagotsakalam.com.
This notice covers the website https://sagotsakalam.com and the Sagot sa Kalam Android app. The contributor form at ambag.sagotsakalam.com has its own notice, because information is collected there.
The short answer
There are no accounts here. No sign-up. We never ask for your name, email or phone number. You just open it and use it. The ingredients you tap in Meron Ako stay on your phone — they are never sent to us.
What stays on your device
- The ingredients you picked — kept in your browser's local storage so you don't start from scratch next time. It stays on your device.
- An offline cache — pages you have opened are kept so they still work without a signal.
Both are erased when you clear your browser data, or when you tap I-clear ang napili in Meron Ako. In the Android app, when you uninstall it.
What gets logged when you visit
- Hosting server logs — the site runs on Netlify, Inc. As with every website, there is an automatic record of the IP address, browser type and page requested. This is for security, abuse prevention and for the service to work at all. We do not use it to identify you.
- No analytics and no ads at this time. If we ever add them, we will update this notice and say so plainly here before they go live.
- No tracking cookies. We do not set cookies to follow you across other sites.
Third parties that run inside the pages
Only two services we do not own are involved, and they see your IP address because the request comes from your own device:
- Netlify, Inc. — our host. Every page passes through them.
- YouTube (Google LLC) — the video thumbnail is loaded from YouTube's servers (i.ytimg.com) when a dish page opens. The player itself does not load until you press play. Once you do, YouTube runs it under their own policy — we built it this way so the view counts for the creator who made the video.
The typefaces, the images and everything else come from sagotsakalam.com itself. We used to load the fonts from Google Fonts, which told Google about every page you opened; we have removed that.
Their servers may sit outside the Philippines, such as in the United States. We remain accountable for your information under Section 21 of RA 10173.
The Android app
The app and the website are the same thing — no account, no name or email asked for. The app requests no permission for contacts, camera, location, files or microphone. It only needs internet access to fetch new dishes and to play video.
When you install it from Google Play, Google keeps its own record of the install and of crash reports under its own policy — that part is outside our control.
If you contributed a recipe
If you sent a recipe through ambag.sagotsakalam.com, we do hold information about you: the name for your credit, your email, and — if you gave them — your channel and where you are from. The form's own notice states in full how we use it, what the public sees, and how long we keep it. Your email is never published.
Children
This app is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from them. Only people 18 and over may contribute a recipe.
Your rights
Under the Data Privacy Act you have the right to be informed, to access the information we hold, to have it corrected, to object to its use, to have it erased or blocked, to data portability, and to damages if you are harmed by its misuse.
Email privacy@sagotsakalam.com and we will answer within 15 days. If you believe we got it wrong, you may complain to the National Privacy Commission.
Security
The whole site is served over HTTPS. Only the Sagot sa Kalam team can see contributions. No system is perfectly safe; if a breach happens that affects you, we will notify you and the National Privacy Commission as the law requires.
Changes to this notice
When we change something we update the date above. If the change is significant — adding analytics or ads, for instance — we will say so on the app's front page before it takes effect.
